_Birthday, Version 29My wife and I have been spending time with one of my closest friends, who is temporarily back in the States from overseas, and as they've been getting to know each other, my friend pointed out to my wife, "I've never seen him so happy." As I pondered that, I realized that it's true: I've never been happier. I'm married to the girl of my dreams (each day reveals another aspect of her that I was looking for but not realizing I was looking for it), who is the best wife a man could have; I have a great job where the work I do matters; I have a great house in a great neighborhood; I have a happy dog and a content cat. As another year goes by, and as I look back, I have seen significant change. And in that, I see much happiness. Do I dread my birthday this year? Maybe a little. But only because there's still so much to do, both for myself and for the greater good, before I leave this homey little planet. |
