_Occupational ChangesWell, I decided I wanted to change jobs again. I've been looking for several weeks now, and this one turned up. It's a multi-function job involving programming, system/network administration, and desktop support. Basically, I do whatever is needed. So the other job at unnamed software start-up is no longer, and I start at unnamed financial services start-up on Monday. While I liked the work at the other job, I got really bored really fast because there wasn't much human interaction to speak of. I mean it was day in, day out of just straight coding, which normally would be a good thing, but having worked at the coffee shop for a year, I've become more extroverted than I was 1.5 years ago. So something in me craves people, more than what was happening at unnamed software start-up. And besides, this new job pays more and actually has benefits. Well, I'll be eligible for benefits after 60 days. But that's OK. This one's a job I can hang on to for a while, I think. One piece of sage advice, though, that I received during the whole process was, "You are not married to your job." There's really nothing stopping us from just up and leaving a job at any given time. Sure, there's the courtesy 2-week notice, but outside of that, we're not chained to a particular desk with the key thrown away. Of course that advice was accompanied by, "Use their resources to start your own company." Who knows, I may end up with my own business. I have ideas that I think would really sell. It's just a matter of getting more or less stable again, then staying up late nights working on code to sell. Here's to positive cash flow! <clink/> And just in time, too. (More on this later.... ;-) |
